About

Who am I?
I am Kishor Krishnamoorthi, a U2 loving, Digg reading, cider drinking, Blackadder watching, film shooting photographer who spends too much thinking and too little time doing.
What do I do?
I mostly like to sit around with friends, talk about everything under the sun and laugh our hearts out.
Unfortunately, the rest of the world doesn’t seem to agree with my choice of occupation and therefore, I have had to partake in some sort of productive activity. In my case, it is being a student, currently in my final year studying BA Economics & Politics at the University of Essex, UK. I was recently elected as the President of the Students Union for 2010-11 so I shall be taking up that post from July, whoop dee doo!
I am a proud Alumnus of the Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, having studied in that prestigious institution for 9 years, from 4th to 12th class. I was the Debates Captain, a Prefect and Editor of the School Newspaper in my final year at school.
What do I like to do?
Apart from the usual human hobbies of breathing and eating, I enjoy taking photographs a lot, especially on film, digital is boring. Fujifilm Velvia is one of the most amazing emulsions invented by mankind as is Fujifilm PRO800Z as well as Kodak Tri-X & Neopan 1600. I’m still an amateur film photographer finding my way across the various different mediums, formats, films that are on offer. My preferred choice of weapon is the Canon AE-1P for 35mm and a Mamiya C330F for 120 although I’ve got a ton of others hanging around my cupboard just in case. My digital buddy is a Canon 40D and I’ve got a plethora of lenses for all these cameras but cannot be bothered to list them all here.
Besides photography, I enjoy eating way too much for my own good. I’d give up half my soul for a plate of Hyderabadi Biryani and a cup of Irani chai. I’ve recently taken up cooking out of pure boredom and I’m slowly honing my culinary skills towards perfection. If you’re ever in the neighbourhood, give me a bell and I’d be more than happy to whip up an exciting meal for you.
Who do I listen to?
As you may have already guessed, I’m a massive U2 fan, they’ve helped me get through some of the most stressful days of my life and I cannot be thankful enough. Queen is my newest obsession and their songs simply make me smile. An old band that I’ve always held close to my heart is Michael Learns to Rock, their love songs are eternal. Bands I like to listen to now and then when I’m in the mood include Guns’N’Roses, Coldplay, The Doors, Bryan Adams, The Beatles and Foreigner.
Classic Tamil songs are a massive favourite and a select few of the newer tracks are pretty good. Illayaraja and A.R.Rahman are true legends in my eyes. I used to play the drums and guitar, I’m probably out of touch now but I should be able to get back in rhythm with some practice.
What do I watch?
I am very selective about movies I watch. If it doesn’t teach me something about life or make me laugh immensely, I don’t want to watch it. Simple. All time favourites are the Back to the Future Trilogy, The Emperor’s Club, The Shawshank Redemption, American Psycho, Apocalypse Now Redux, Pulp Fiction, The Wrestler, Milk, Devar Magan, Nayakan, Swades, the latter three being Indian movies.
As for TV Shows, all those long endless shows like Lost, Prison Break, blah blah blah are a strict no no. Blackadder is quite perhaps one of the finest shows to appear on primetime television as well as Seinfeld. Shows I don’t mind watching are 30 Rock, The Wonder Years and some occasional random stand up comedy. I remember being a huge of Full House as a kid but I’ve grown over it now.
The obligatory list of my favourite actors is Kamal Hassan, Shah Rukh Khan and Morgan Freeman. There are probably many more but I cannot really think of any others now.
What do I read?
‘The Economist’ is a regular feature on my bookshelves and the ‘British Journal of Photography’ is a new introduction to my plate and I’ve taken a liking to it almost instantly.
Although traditionally a big fan of fiction books, I’ve slowly started opening up to non-fiction books as well, mostly for academic purposes but I’m also beginning to enjoy acquiring knowledge with the primary purpose of impressing women at the bar. Roald Dahl, Satyajit Ray, Micheal Crichton and Matthew Reilly have played an important part in shaping up my reading habits but I’ve expanded to much more these days, ranging from Andy McNab to Jeremy Clarkson.
On the interwebz, I’m an ardent fan of xkcd, like any true geek, as well as WhattheDuck. Engadget, Gizmodo, Strobist, etc feature on my RSS reader as one can expect but some of more unusual ones are The Figital Revolution, Feeling Negative, and The Art of Manliness.
What else?
I also play a fair few videogames. I’ve been a long time fan of the legendary game Transport Tycoon, the game which teaches you more than your average business degree. My relatively recent likes include the epic GTA series (love GTA III), Max Payne series and Half Life 2 series (cannot wait for Ep. 3!). I’ve also developed an interest in short quick games which let me take a brief break from academic work. Oh, and I own a Wii which is fantastic fun with friends!
I have an unexplained obsession with everything retro. Listening to classic songs, on Vinyl preferably, taking photos on cameras that are as old as my parents, donning tweed jackets and oxblood shoes, growing my hair longer than socially acceptable, sporting wacky beard styles, the list goes on. They make me who I am and I love it so much.
You can spot me at random websites by the pseudonym of ‘Mjuboy’.
