Photoshoot : Gachibowli Rockwalk
Posted in Photography, Places, Site News |I went with a few friends from the Photography Club yesterday for a Rock Walk organised by the Society to Save Rocks. We met at 3 in the afternoon within the city and reached the spot in Gachibowli by 4. Ironically, there was rock blasting activity going on next to the area but thankfully, the area where we were going had been deemed as a Heritage Site by HUDA, so the rocks there had no risk of being blown into a thousand pieces.
The walk lasted for a little more than 2 hours, all of which was spent taking photographs of the beautiful rock formations and landscapes. The area was spread out over a hill and we had a great time exploring the rocks and trying to get to the highest point. The view from the top was breathtaking and we stood there for quite some time just admiring the work of nature. We almost got lost a couple of times but fortunately, we were able to spot members of our team and find our way.
Taking photographs wasn’t as easy as we thought it would be. Since there was a great level of contrast between the sky and landscape, under ‘Auto’ mode, the camera would either set the exposure level for the sky or the land and thus, losing detail in the other. If the sky was metered, then the land would be underexposed and dark, and if the land was metered, the sky would be washed out and appear white. The problem was aggravated by the fact that I don’t own a polarizer and after a few shots, I decided to photograph in full manual mode and after that I was able to capture some beautiful scenes.
We couldnt stay up in the hill for sunset since the sun sets pretty late these days but I was able to get a few nice photographs from ground level too. We had tea and snacks after the walk. I met some new and interesting people and had a great time at the walk.
