Fail sports day…..
Posted in School |I never expected sports day to turn out like this……..
During the opening ceremony, they announced all our names when we marched past the chief guest which was probably the best part of the day…….
First, we come 4th in the marching, while Nagarjuna won the shield. Vijaynagar were runners-up. Heads up to Fatik for coming 2nd. Then the we had the athletic events, Nalanda won most of the events by a large margin. Then we had the highly anticipated All Divisions 4*100 Relay. Nalanda and Taxila were in strong competition for 1st place but we emerged victorious. Vijaynagar and Nagarjuna fought for the 3rd place but it was more of a race for the Fatik to get a medal. Unfortunately, the heavens didnt favour him today and he came 4th…….At the end of the race, while Fatik regretted his loss, Mrs.Amrutha Chandra announced that Fatik was the best house captain ever! I’m sure that would have made his day but with the shouts of the crowd, he missed it……
Then, all of us were herded towards the figure marching for the closing ceremony. We hardly marched and just ran in eager anticipation of our shields. Although we were asked to sit next to the shields, slowly, everyone went and joined their houses in the cheering, but I still regret going and sitting there.
The announced the individual prizes first, and then the shields. As they announced the shields one by one, I strained my ears to hear the announcement of the Debates Shield…….in vain. The organization of the event was pathetic and they had mixed up each shield with another and in the end, I never went to get my shield. As I learnt earlier, what I thought was the Athletic shield was infact the Debates Shield. I will never forgive the people who took care of the distribution of the shields for what happened today.
Yes, I love my school for what it is, but it has not stood the test of time…with the change in the management, everything had degraded. By not giving me my shield, they have removed an important part of my school life, one less picture to be taken, one less memory to be rekindled, one less event to be remembered………
Congratulations to everyone who won their shield and actually received them today…..Daman Patel for quiz……Zafar Khan for basketball…….Vikram for Athletics……Shravan for football…….Akshat Badruka for Cricket…….Isha Anjali Chandra for music…….I cant remember any more now…..forgive me if I have forgotten to mention your name here………
And finally, the highly coveted sports day is over……..I hated it, tbh……it got over in utter confusion……I watched as the chief guest walked past me and everyone around me clapped while I stood silently with my hands by my side……..then, all the houses took their shield and did a victory lap…..and I just strolled past them benignly towards the parking lot…….one day I will never forget for all the wrong reasons……..
Update: Photography was pretty sad too. I took only 454 pictures, most of which were taken by my Dad. Thanks to Umeer for taking pictures of the shields. I also took my 10,000th picture with my new camera today.
