Picasa update
Picasa had been bugging me for the past few days to update it and I finally got with it yesterday. After it finished updating, I realised that I should have updated it earlier. Its got some new features and has a slightly different look too.
The main U.S.P of the update was the Web Albums feature. You can login into web albums using your Google Id and upload photos directly from withing Picasa. The Albums have a limit of 250Mb unlike Flickr where they have a monthly upload limit.
Another great new addition was geotagging which allowed one to mark the places where the picture was taken. This was greatly aided by the integration of Google Earth. When a picture had to be geotagged, Google Earth would automatically open (if installed) and you can select the place where th picture was snapped. Then the Latitude and Longitude would be added to the EXIF data of the picture.
The labels feature has been replaced by the Albums feature which allows us to arrange picture from different folders into one Album for eas viewing. The Album does not create copies of the picture but merely stores the data of their location, thereby saving your precious hard disk space.
The update was good and Picasa has been the best free image organising program I have used till date. Its gets 8.5/10. Download it here.
I’ve also updated the header of the website.
