Today was just another hot summer day but with the exception that George W. Bush was visting Hyderabad. I missed the landing of the plane but then climbed the rocks in the school backfield to get a glimpse of the plane. Later, after a quick lunch of a bowl of Ice Cream, Amit Reddy & I went to the backfield to watch the Take Off. We went there at about 1:30 and waited till 2:00pm, before getting pissed off and ready to leave. Then Amit spotted the lights in the plane blinking and the engine starting which got us all excited and change our minds. We stayed on till 2:10 before getting impatient and getting ready to leave, again.
Then suddenly, my sensitive ears picked up the sound of Helicopters. The sound appeared to becoming from the right but then almost out of nowhere, 3 huge helicopters appeared onto our left at a distance of not more than 500m. It was an amazing sight.
Then they all landed and one of them went upto the second plane hidden in the trees.Bush must have gotten out of that and gone into the plane. Then that plane came out from it “hiding place” and came onto the runway. It was HUGE! Then it went all the way to the other of the runway and started moving towards the end closer to us for Take Off. It took off at almost the end of the Runway. It was something that was worth waiting for 2 hours.
The other plane which looked this one but was a little smaller took off the further end of the runway. The Helicopters slowly lifted off and the whole convoy was away and gone.
We walked all the way to the Parking Lot thinking it was all over. But then just as I left school, a convoy of atleast 10 Black Land Cruisers and 5 F50s went past me with loud sirens and blue and red lights flashing away to glory. I watched as they all went into the airpot….probably to return after 5 more years.
And as the saying goes….”George Bush has left the city”.
And here is some additional info about the Air Force One.
The Air Force One is capable of flying halfway around the world without refuelling.
The presidential fleet has consisted of two specifically configured, highly customized Boeing 747-200B series aircraft with the tail numbers 28000 and 29000 with Air Force designation VC-25A.
